Behind every dog, lies a true story. Let us take you on a journey that’s been anything but ordinary...

Ripley's legacy is our way to share nearly 13 years of experience to help educate dog pawrents on the many 'helpful' things we were not told, not prepared for or not aware of on how to prepare for things like surgery, rehabilitation etc.

We share on this website our experiences with Ripley, and the things we've learnt along the way in the hope this will help you and your dog, as a brief summary:

  • within 3 days of getting Ripley home as a puppy he was at his first vet appointment for gastrointestinal (GA) issues, eventually diagnosed as giardia;
  • within 6 months he was displaying lameness issues (diagnosed as elbow dysplasia);
  • within 12 months he had his first major operation;
  • within 16 months Ripley attended his first rehab sessions;
  • & since then he had minimum 1 operation a year & has had physical therapy ever since... he has also adventure travelled with us throughout Europe & Scandinavia over the last 13 years !

As you don't know him or us you may think the number or surgeries etc was unfair or even cruel - if you do feel this way then BEFORE making these judgements please have a look at his social media profiles where you will clearly see he was an incredibly happy boy who wanted for nothing; we would NEVER have allowed him to suffer.

When he decided he wanted to go, he let us know and we respected his wishes. He passed away peacefully in a spot he chose in the garden, in the sunshine in the garden at home on 17th March 2026.

Disclosure:

We are not a vets! We are sharing Ripley's (our dog) surgery journeys to help other dog parents feel less alone, but this is not medical advice. Every dog’s recovery is unique. Please follow your own surgeon's instructions and consult your vet before trying any new care techniques or supplements mentioned here.

While we’ve learned a lot navigating our dogs surgery, we have no veterinary medical training. We're sharing what worked for us, but please remember that your vet's discharge instructions are the final word on your dog's health!
